"No Part Of Nothin' evokes a very new, yet, familiar feeling in me. I love the natural touch and soulfulness of this record. You can tell Mark is playing because he loves the sound, and that’s what makes me really enjoy this record! bluegrass...well. bluegrass is woven into the very fabric of our great american narrative. an ever evolving artifact of our ingenuity, catalogued and propagated by calloused fingers. bluegrass is wine country highs and deep river blues. it's pickin' in the kitchen in a game of pick up out back. BLUEGRASS IS! a foot up on the couch in a barn full of hey bails softer than silk sheets. bluegrass is michigan waters and cherry wine. bluegrass is standing on the edge of the great midwest - the broad crest of a wave that never breaks. bluegrass is being willing to starve for a thing like integrity, but never having to. well? bluegrass is the automatic tabulation and pronunciation of our collective elation! (and it looks mighty fine in cuordoroy). that's what it is to me anyhow; the high note of a sunrise picturesque on a darkened interstate. it's bluegrass, it just is.

released June 26, 2014

All songs were recorded live by Ben Lau at Double Phelix in Kalamazoo, Michigan except "Für Flux n' Fleck", recorded by Keith Billik at his home in Ferndale, Michigan; "Dust from Dust" recorded live by Joe Wilson at his home in Lake Leelanau, Michigan; "I Want to Sing that Rock and Roll" recorded live by Jacob Groopman at Jacob and Melody's home in Richmond, California, as was Josh and Jacob's twin mandolin break for "Ol' Daingerfield." Ian Gorman engineered the overdubs for the Rhodes piano and cajón for "Bluegrass Is…" and drums for "Friendship in Flight" at La Luna Recording and Sound in Kalamazoo. Ben's bass solo for "Sliding Rock" was overdubbed by Dave Schall at DSA Studio One. My dobro part for "Brenda Lee" was overdubbed by Ben Zito at his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Generation Custom Drums cájon provided by Tony Roth and Miss Muse in Kalamazoo. Photography by John Hanson. Album artwork by Mary Thiefels. Graphic Design work by Bill Chesney. "No Part of Nothin'" was mixed by Ian Gorman at La Luna Recording and Sound and was mastered by Yes Master Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. A solid "slap on the back" to all of the folks who kickstarted this project - I literally wouldn't have been able to do this without you! And to my family and friends, all too many to list here; if it hasn't been said before, you are my source of inspiration, mon raison d'être. With love, gratitude, and positive energy abound, me despido…
